Connecticut League to Form
Young Credit Union Employee Collaboration Council

In a time where many credit unions are setting their sights on attracting the next generation of members, the Credit Union League of Connecticut is launching an inaugural young credit union employee networking council.

Following the success of the Filene Research Institute’s 30 Under 30 Program, the Connecticut League is recruiting credit union employees under the age of 35 to participate in a year-long networking and collaboration council. In Filene’s model, 30 credit union leaders under the age of 30, banded together as an entrepreneurial swat team to come up with ten implementable ideas to attract a new generation of credit union members, employees and volunteers. Following a presentation at the California Credit Union League Annual Meeting, many of these ideas were spearheaded by credit unions across the country as viable ways to focus on the future of the industry.

Amy Stanton, AVP of Marketing at Connex CU, participated in the 30 Under 30 Program with Filene and has agreed to steer our efforts in establishing a networking council specifically for Connecticut. The initial goal of the council will be to come up with one or two unique products or services. After development, the council will apply for an implementation grant at the end of 2010. The intent of this council is to develop something Connecticut credit unions can use and implement that will set us apart from the competition.

We are seeking a credit union employee who:

• Is under the age of 35.
• Is looking for opportunities to further develop their career and their involvement in the credit union industry.
• Is willing to commit time to this new and exciting group. We’ll look for a time and effort commitment from both sides: the credit union will be willing to allow the employee to attend occasional council meetings and events. The employee should also be willing to commit a small amount of personal time to these efforts. This will not be an overwhelming time commitment, but both sides should be willing to be flexible.
• Has worked at their credit union for any length of time – we’re looking for a great mix of seasoned and new credit union employees!
• Is willing to commit a few hours per month for at least 12 months. The council will be formed in the first quarter of 2010 and will wrap up around the same time in 2011 (depending on outcomes and grant opportunities.) There will likely be only one official meeting per month. There is a potential conference call or quick touch base that may be needed on occasion outside of the one monthly in-person meeting.
• An introductory meeting will be held at the League on Thursday, February 18 at 9:30 a.m.

This new group is a great way for Connecticut credit unions and a staff member to be on the leading edge of new opportunities in Connecticut and the credit union industry.
