Program Description: Preparing for the Unthinkable

Tragic events in our communities involving workplace safety and physical security are forcing organizations of all types to prepare for unthinkable situations. The reality is that it can happen anywhere- in or near schools, campuses, military bases, and even your credit union branches. Unfortunate and traumatic events related to robberies and active shooter incidents are unpredictable and evolve quickly. This session will share important components related to credit union and staff preparation, planning and training. In addition, discussion regarding controls, technologies, and action steps to consider will be introduced.

Mike Petrone is a risk management consultant in Risk and Compliance for CUNA Mutual Group. In this role, he assists credit unions in identifying areas of risk in their operations and recommends appropriate controls to reduce loss exposures. He is also the physical security specialist in the Risk Management Department. Petrone began his career with CUNA Mutual Group in 1986 as a loss prevention specialist. His currently title is Risk Management Consultant. Prior to joining CUNA Mutual Group, Petrone worked as a fraud auditor for the State of Massachusetts. Petrone earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Salem State University. He has also earned the designations of Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA) and Credit Union Security and Fraud Expert (CUSFE). In addition, Petrone is a licensed real estate broker in Maine and Massachusetts. Petrone is an ALICE Certified Active Shooter Trainer.
